Tut tut it looks like… a sprinkle?

So, Elise and I decided a few months ago that we’d have a sprinkle.

What is a sprinkle you may ask?  Well, maybe this is common knowledge but I personally had never heard of one.  You know, with my living under a rock and all (aka never seeing the light of day/being way behind on cute things because I have a crazy one year old) ;-)

A sprinkle is what you do instead of a second baby shower. So instead of getting “showered” you get “sprinkled”.  Ah ha… clever. :-)

Well, Elise is party planner extraordinaire and we knew we’d be inviting the exact same people to our Sprinkles because our babies are only about 8 weeks apart… we figured… let’s just throw it for each other and totally have fun with it.

Well, we only had one month… which in mommy years is like, 5 minutes. No joke. You should see how funny it is with our two boys (who are CRAZY ) and us trying to cut out bunting and thread 16 feet worth of buttons. MORE THAN ONCE. Yeah. Yeah. 5 minutes. TOPS.

Anyway, we wanted this Sprinkle to be adorable, but we also realized that we had to get pretty crafty because these things get pricey really quick. We decided to go with a luncheon/afternoon tea theme. Since we are not having the same gender and still wanted a joint Sprinkle, we decided it was appropriate for a boy or girl. That made things a bit tricky in the beginning, but it’s totally doable! Nothing too pink, nothing too blue. A bit of both, filled with lots of cuteness and sweetness… because really, boy or girl what little bundle of joy isn’t jam packed with cuteness and squishable sweetness?!

We took many a trip to various thrift stores and found tons of old sheets and tea cups (which Elise spray painted like a champ… I stood back and “supported” because you just shouldn’t trust me with spray paint. I knew better.) We also did a mixture of doing homemade food as well as some store bought goodies from Trader Joes and Smart and Final. We went to a local flower shop for flowers and just basically did everything cost effective as we could. I must say, it couldn’t have been better!

Actually I’ll take that back… 1 thing could have been better… and that would have been the stinking light. Our Sprinkle was set to start at 2:00 which is great for a middle of the day party, but not so great for pictures before the guests arrive. So we had little to no coverage and extremely harsh light while trying to get detail shots and trying to stay out there until the last second before people arrived. So, that of course wasn’t so fun, but this was for real and not just a styled shoot, so we made do.

All in all, Elise and I had an amazing time and we were so blessed by everyone who came and “sprinkled” these new little nuggets so generously! Our new little ones will definitely be born to a full wardrobe and a new full toy box. :-)

Now for some photos!

This is our little fun area that we created out of stakes from Home Depot. Oh yeah.

Our little finds from thrift stores and the the heads off of carnations. Sorry little flowers.

Buttons. Lots and lots and lots of buttons.

Yummy treats. All of the stands on the tables we made out of the fun stuff from the thrift stores. A little spray paint and hot glue will go a LONG way.

Hummus and sprouts. Yum.

Our amazing friend Erin of Kuba Kreations, made these fabulous cupcakes. They tasted as good as they look.

Here is a perfect example of homemade and store bought! The meringues are from Trader Joes, we made the marshmallow pops and those cute little blue rice crispy balls. The eclairs are from Smart and Final… and they are good!

The whole spread. To the left is a build your own parfait stop. We had Vanilla Yogurt, fresh berries, honey, nuts and homemade granola. It was a hit! Not very expensive either!

This is me spelling Wesley’s name wrong. Sorry little guy. :-)

Instead of doing name tags we did personalized straws. Much cuter if you ask me. :-)

Here are little ribbon chandeliers. The buttons you see above are strung from the middle to all of the corners of our little eating area.

And of course us. Elise is the cute little blond on the left and I… well… I’m 8 months pregnant. :-)

That is baby Wesley and baby Joelle. They will be on the blog soon enough, I’m sure. :-)

And…you are the cute brunette on the right who is ever so cute being 8 months pregnant. You both are beautiful and very talented. I haven’t heard so many “Oohs & Aahs” in a long time. Everything was perfect. It was whimsical, fun, tasty and yummy. I had a wonderful time celebrating the anticapted birth of these two new babies who will bless so many. Love to all.
