{Dylan & Chelsea} Salt Lake City Film Session

I was SO thrilled to visit one of my best friends and her sweet husband last month.  I started shooting a little film here and there last year (after about 10 years of not shooting film) and was loving it. I decided I loved the look so much it was time to invest in a film camera that would work well for portraits and weddings so I took the plunge and bought the Contax 645. I absolutely LOVE it. It’s been a bit of a learning curve but I have appreciated every. single. moment.

The amazing thing about film is the fact that you have to trust yourself. Something I feel as an artist is difficult at times. We know what we like, we know what we want… but when you work in a service industry sometimes (not always) you lose sight of the “art” and focus more on the “job.”  Now, of course I believe in a healthy balance, but it’s difficult.  This little camera – well, not so little but you know what I mean has given me so much fresh perspective.

I encourage each and everyone one of you, whether it be film, or shooting just for you, or trying a new location, or even drawing, painting, cooking – whaaaatever. Try something that causes you to slow down and trust yourself.  It’s fun. ;-) and it feeds the soul, which I know I need.

Now back to Chelsea and Dylan!

Chelsea has been somewhat of a “muse” for me since the very beginning of  my photography. I would make her dress up in ridiculous outfits and force her to take about a thousand photos. Chelsea and Dylan were one of the first couples I ever photographed and I have been fortunate and blessed that they have trusted me since the very start and I have had the honor of documenting them through it all. Newly dating, engagement, wedding, and now this sweet little love session. I keep crossing my fingers that the next time we shoot it will be because of babies… hehe. ;-)

Anyway, I love these people. They are wonderful from the inside out, truly.

Chelsea and Dylan, thank you for always being willing to go with me on photo adventures, for being who you are, and for trusting me to show others how you love. It’s always an honor.

Now for some photos!
